If you were one of the thousands of fans who missed seeing Phoebe Waller-Bridge in her super sold-out run of Fleabag at the theatre last year, then you’re in luck.
It’s been announced today that #FleabagForCharityhas been launched, whereby you can stream the show on demand for as little as £4. All the funds raised will be going to charities that have been affected by Covid-19.
The one-woman-show (that originally spawned the TV show) was on at London’s Wyndham Theatre last year for a last and limited run – it was also broadcast to cinemas as part of NT Live in September 2019.
Now, it will be available to watch through Soho Theatre’s On Demand streaming website from today for a minimum donation of £4. After donating, the recording is available to watch for 48 hours.
The site asks: ‘Please consider paying as much as you can, with the knowledge that our goal is to raise as much money as possible for these deserving organisations.’
35% of the money raised will be sent to the National Emergency Trust supporting the most vulnerable in society. 35% will be sent to NHS Charities Together supporting NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients. 15% will be sent to Acting For Others, which offers support to people struggling across the theatre sector. 15% will be kept for the Fleabag Support Fund.
The Fleabag Support Fundis a new emergency support fund for UK-based freelancers in the theatre industry. It will provide grants of £2500 to freelancers working in the theatre industry who are unable to work as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic and are in urgent financial need. It’s understood Phoebe Waller-Bridge has made ‘a substantial donation’ to the fund.
The Fleabag actress said: ‘I hope this filmed performance of Fleabag can help raise money while providing a little theatrical entertainment in these isolated times. Thank you to all our partners and to the creative team who have waived their royalties from this production to raise money for such vital causes in this unbelievably challenging situation.
‘All money raised will support the people throughout our society who are fighting for us on the frontlines and those financially devastated by the crisis, including those in the theatre community. Thank you in advance to those who donate. Now go get into bed with Fleabag! It’s for charity! Px’
From Friday May 10, you’ll also be able to watch the show on Amazon Prime for £4.
