This morning, ‘Harry Styles nude’ spiked on Google Trends. Why? Because its being reported that he will appear nude in his upcoming film, My Policeman. Set in the 1950’s, Harry plays a police officer named Tom who has an affair with a man, played by David Dawson, while married to Emma Corrin’s character, Marion.
In typical tabloid fashion, the idea of seeing Harry naked on screen came from The Sun. ‘Harry will be having sex on screen and they want it to look as real as possible,’ an insider reportedly told them. They explained that there will be two sex scenes between Harry and David, ‘then another scene where Harry is naked on his own…Not much is going to be left to the imagination.’
Now, with the cult fandom Harry has, you can see why this has sparked absolute mania with ‘Harry Styles nude’ and ‘Harry Styles new movie’ both breakout search terms on Google Trends right now. But can we remember that actually, it’s just really creepy to Google search for naked images of celebrities?
Until the film is released, or assets from filming are published, any pictures of Harry Style’s fully naked body that end up online would likely be leaks – that means, shared non-consensually. In which case, no matter what someone’s gender identity is, they shouldn’t be shared at all, let alone sought out by voyeurs on the internet.
This is about actively seeking out naked images of someone that they haven’t given our consent to see.
We know that men have a level of privilege when it comes to their naked bodies. They’re not subject to the same objectification we are, as women, nor are they slut-shamed for bearing their bodies or harassed in the streets every summer. It’s with that in mind many women feel perfectly comfortable discussing men’s physical attractiveness in various jokey or lewd ways, because unlike what’s come of men’s objectification of women, women are largely no threat to men at all regardless of how we talk about their bodies.
This though, is different – this is about actively seeking out naked images of someone that they haven’t given our consent to see. There are certain professional images of Harry half-naked, or fully naked, that he shared – or the photographer did – that were clearly consensual, but when it comes to nude shots of him in this movie, anything that is posted prior to its release is clearly a violation of his privacy.
So, while the thought of seeing Harry Styles naked on screen might be titillating for some, can we all agree it’s completely creepy to be searching for them on Google right now?
