Gwyneth Paltrow made herself the ultimate meme today in honour of promoting Goop’s newest product: a double-sided vibrator. Yes, the brand that brought you vaginal Jade Eggs and the infamous ‘This Smells Like My Vagina Candle’ is now hoping to bring you an orgasm alongside their many wellness endeavours.
The Goop Double-Sided Wand Vibrator retails at $95 (£68) which actually, in the world of sex toys and Goop-land in general, is relatively cheap. It promises to combine the best of both worlds – that is clitoral and penetrative stimulation – with a massage ball on one end and a vibrating wand on the other, for an easy switch depending on what you’re in the mood for.
More than that, Goop considers the vibrator an art piece, writing ‘we also wanted it to look like something you’d leave on your nightstand as a functional objet d’art,’ in their blog post about the latest Paltrow project. In a hilariously self-aware description of the ‘powerful and firm’ vibrator, the website wrote ‘Although we may have dabbled in hyperbole once or twice, after you give this vibrator a whirl, you may accuse us of understatement.’
And while double-sided wand vibrator is receiving it’s fair share of attention, the Gwyneth meme is taking centre-stage. The actor turned entrepreneur posted a picture of the 1999 Academy Awards, replacing the Oscar she won that year for Shakespeare in Love with the double-sided wand as she beamed at cameras on the red-carpet. Honestly, this woman is ahead of the game when it comes to self-promotion.
But what we’re obsessed with is the growing trend of celebrities entering the sex-toy market. From creating their own sex toys, a la Gwyneth and Lilly Allen, to endorsing particular brands – celebrity sex toys are slowing becoming the new celebrity alcohol brands. And why the hell not? The more we see powerful women embracing masturbation and sexual pleasure, the less stigmatised it will become to talk about at large.
Hell, you can even burn Gwyneth’s vagina candle while testing out the new Goop vibrator if you want the ultimate Gwyneth sexual experience – if that isn’t a conversation starter over (our eventual) bottomless brunches we don’t know what is.
