Ladies, we’ve all been there. The Tinder opening, the good morning text, the ‘I’m just in bed what you up to?’ snapchat – every so often you receive one fateful message that reminds you that you are just one of many, many women in some man’s texting rotation.
When it comes to Tinder openers, it’s almost forgivable. Yes, a first message that is unique to someone’s profile is always going to be better, but let’s be honest – no one is on Tinder for true love anymore so a minimum effort, maximum reward tactic is just good sense.
That is, until you get caught sending the same opener to two friends and end up getting played at your own game – which is exactly what happened to one Tinder user this week. Posting the exchange on Twitter alongside the caption ‘I’m deleting Tinder’, one unidentified man truly receives his comeuppance when he sends the same, highly convoluted pick up line to all the women he matched with.
‘Imagine this. We are both strangers in a grocery store but we will somehow make eye contact in the produce section,’ his opening message starts, ‘my hands are full of limes [and] I am unable to hold all of them. Limes are falling all over the ground. You rush over in an effort to help and I look deeply in your eyes and say, "Sorry, I'm bad at pickup limes."'
Honestly, this would probably warrant a response from most women – that is if you can’t tell the painfully obvious copy and paste from a website all about the best Tinder opening lines.
And get a response he did, but not what he expected. ‘Okay, that was really good. I think you deserve my snap or phone number for that one,’ one woman wrote back. And a few moments later? Another sends exactly the same.
So what did our beloved Tinder f*ckboy do, he immediately fell into their trap and confessed everything.
‘Okay, not gunna lie the weirdest thing just happened,’ he said, ‘I haven't been on Tinder for a few days so I sent that out to a couple girls and you gave the literal exact same response as another girl. Not sound to sound like a player but whatever, I'm tripped out.'
To which, our actually beloved Tinder pranksters sent him a YouTube link to a video titled ‘and they were roommates’.
OBSESSED. We can only imagine the scenes going on in that house as the two women sat next to each other swiping, received the same reply and concocted their masterplan. Honestly, we might’ve just spent 500 words ripping the copy and paste method, but we might have to borrow this ourselves when it eventually happens to us.
