So by now you’ve probably heard there’s going to be a general election (or, 'Genny Lec' asthe TikTokers are calling it) on 4 July. With campaigns from all the parties well underway, the question remains around who will be in charge of our newly formed parliament.
Now, of course we could go down the usual route of predicting which party will win by looking at official polling data, assessing the different party manifestos, or checking out the bookie’s odds. But they do say that our fate is written in the stars, so why not delve into the candidates’ horoscopes to see what they have in store?
‘As the UK approaches a pivotal election, the cosmic energies revealed through the candidates' astrological signs may shed light on their potential leadership styles,’ says Joanne Jones, who is the lead psychic and astrologer at Trusted Psychics. ‘Given the current global turmoil, the nation requires a leader who embodies strength, commitment, and compassion.’
We’ve dived into the electoral candidates’ astrological charts to shed some light on how the upcoming election might pan out…
Keir Starmer - Labour
Keir Starmer is born on 2 September 1962, making him a Virgo – the sixth sign of the zodiac which is represented by a young maiden carrying a sheaf of wheat.
Antonella, professional astrologer and numerologist at Psychic World, explains that Virgos are ‘practical, methodical, and often strive for perfection’ in their endeavours. These traits, she says, can be ‘beneficial’ to a political leader, because ‘they suggest a person who is diligent, well-prepared, and capable of handling the complexities of governance.’ It’s true that India's current Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is a Virgo and apparently shows all the typical qualities of the sign.
Antonella adds that Virgo's ruling planet, Mercury, is likely to play a significant role throughout 2024. ‘Mercury governs communication, which means clear, effective messaging leading up to the election date on July 4th could be crucial. Starmer's ability to articulate his vision and policies might resonate well if Mercury's influence is strong,’ she says.
Starmer's horoscope for July 2024 reads ‘Enjoy a period of respect and reputation. Trade prospects will improve, and partnerships will thrive.’ Watch this space.
Rishi Sunak - Conservative
Rishi Sunak is a Taurus, because he is born on 12 May 1980. Taurus is represented by the bull, and related to the Greek myth of Zeus who took on the form of a bull to abduct Europa. According to Zodiacsign.com, Taurus are reliable, patient, practical, devoted, responsible, stable. Their weaknesses are being stubborn, possessive, uncompromising.
‘Sunak's tenure as Chancellor of the Exchequer showcased his practical approach to economic management, aligning well with the Taurus reputation for reliability and pragmatism,’ says Antonella. She explains that in 2024, Taurus individuals might find themselves benefitting from ‘positive transits involving Uranus’ which is in Taurus until 2026. ‘This can bring unexpected changes and opportunities, potentially providing Sunak with innovative ideas and new approaches to traditional problems,’ she adds.
His horoscope for July 2024 reads ‘Happiness and success anticipated in relationships, possibly leading to small celebrations. Opportunities for moving abroad may arise.’ A positive yet ambiguous prediction. Our only guarantee is that we can expect to see Rishi donning his trusty sambas out and about on the campaign trail.
Ed Davey - Liberal Democrats
Ed Davey is actually born on Christmas Day, making him a Capricorn. According to Antonella, Capricorns tend to be ‘reliable’ and they value structure and long-term planning.
‘Davey's political stance often reflects a focus on responsibility, whether in terms of environmental policy, social justice, or economic management,’ she says. ‘Ruled by Saturn, the planet of discipline and structure, Capricorns are strategic thinkers. This influence suggests that Davey's leadership style is likely to be methodical and well-planned, which could appeal to voters looking for stability and long-term solutions.’
His horoscope for July 2024 reads ‘polite and empathetic approach needed in personal and professional spheres. Expect stress and hurdles due to miscommunication.’ Hmm, stress and hurdles don’t bode well for a general election, but we might be proven wrong.
Richard Tice - Reform UK
Like Keir, Richard Tice is also a Virgo, meaning we have two ‘young maidens’ (or, grown men) running for parliament. As a Virgo, Joanna explains that Tice likely excels in ‘organisation and strategic planning, adding ‘his methodical approach can be a significant asset in addressing economic and administrative challenges, bringing order and clarity to complex issues.’
Like Starmer, Tice could also find himself benefitting from Mercury’s positive transitions this year. ‘This will enhance their communication skills and strategic thinking, which could be advantageous for Tice in debates and public appearances,’ says Antonella.
John Swinney - SNP
John Swinney is born on 13 April 1964, making him an Aries – the first astrological sign in the zodiac represented by the ram. So, does first in the zodiac also mean first in the election race? Well, not necessarily, but let’s take a deeper dive into the SNP leader’s character.
‘People born under this sign tend to be bold, enthusiastic, and determined, with a natural ability to take initiative and lead others,’ says Antonella. ‘Ruled by Mars, the planet of action and drive, Aries individuals are often seen as natural leaders who are not afraid to take risks. This influence suggests that Swinney's approach to the election will be proactive and assertive.’
His horoscope for July 2024 reads 'happiness and support in personal and professional relationships are indicated. A sudden disagreement in thoughts with family and in a love relationship is possible.' Hmm.
Carla Denyer - Green Party
This is a bit of a mysterious one. After a deep dive online, we can’t actually find a date for Denyer's birthday – only the month September. This means that she could be either a Virgo or a Libra. Since we’ve already addressed a couple of Virgos, let’s look into the possibility that Denyer is a Libra.
'Libras have a natural charm that helps them connect with people, which can be beneficial in gaining voter support,' says Antonella. 'They are also driven by a sense of justice and fairness, aligning with Denyer's focus on social and environmental issues.'
Denyer's horoscope for July 2024 reads ‘plan a short trip with loved ones for cherished memories. Exercise caution in ambitious financial investments.’ Will her short trip be a celebratory one? We'll have to wait and see.
What does astrology say about the date of the election?
The general election falls on the 4 July 2024. Antonella explains that this date is interesting both ‘symbolically’ and ‘astrologically’, because 4 July calls under the sign of Cancer ‘a sign which is ruled by the Moon’ and is associated with home, family and emotionally security.
‘This might suggest an election period where issues related to national security, healthcare, and social welfare are at the forefront,’ she said. ‘With Cancer's influence, there may be an increased emphasis on social policies that address healthcare, welfare, and community support—areas where a diligent Virgo like Starmer could shine.’
However, she adds that Taurus’ focus on ‘stability and financial security’ complements Cancer's emphasis on emotional and national security, ‘meaning Sunak’s policies might appeal to voters seeking economic stability.’
Now let's do some royal astrology...
Royal Star Signs - Grazia
Meghan Markle - Leo
Meghan Markle was born on the 4th of August 1981 which makes her a Leo. If the Duchess of Sussex is true to type - then her Leo traits include creativity, warmth and a great sense of humour.
Prince Harry - Virgo
Prince Harry's birthdate of the 15th of September makes him a virgo. Virgoes are supposedly loyal and practical but can be shy and over critical (though his Virgo-centric attention to detail should help with royal life).
Kate Middleton - Capricorn
As a true-to-type Capricorn Kate Middleton's sun sign means that she values family while being a stickler for tradition. Capricorn's are also known for being masters of discipline and self-control.
Prince William - Cancer
Family-orientated Cancers like Prince William can be 'glass half empty' types but they make up for it with their strong sense of loyalty and emotional sensitivity.
Prince George - Cancer
Like his dad, George is an imaginative and senstive Cancer sun sign (aww).
Princess Charlotte - Taurus
Princess Charlotte's birthday on the 2nd of May makes her a stubborn - but reliable Taurus.
