Anytime the world comes together to observe a monumental event, in this case the Olympics, you can trust the internet to jump straight to business, get its priorities in order and mark it in the most special way possible: by creating memes.
Tokyo Olympics 2020 Opening Ceremony has only just started and already the internet is being hilarious. ‘Best Olympics memes and jokes' quickly became a breakout search term as the Nations parade went on for what felt like light years. And mid-ceremony some questioned whether anyone knew if the Olympics was going ahead yet.
But our favourite has been spectators at home pining after national treasure Graham Norton of all people, wishing he was commentating. It’s fair to say his witty quips and innuendos might have helped speed along the 947282th flag procession.
It’s not that Olympic commentators Hazel Irvine and Andrew Cotter are doing a bad job, per se, but we’re not likely to hear 'I don't think I've got bad taste. I've got no taste' (a Graham special) as part of their bants. And we're not saying this ceremony is the most boring we've ever seen and we've fallen asleep a few times... no we're NOT saying that - but it's hard to deny that Graham would have spiced it up.
