Last night, Ant and Dec went viral for all the right reasons. Rehashing their infamous ‘Evening Prime Minister’ joke from the glory days of 2018 I’m A Celeb, the comedy duo made a crack about the leaked videos of ministers joking about an alleged Christmas party at Downing Street last year. And now, Boris Johnson has been forced to reply.

After the I’m A Celeb camp mates chose a new ‘camp leader’ on last night’s episode, Ant joked that group ‘weren’t celebrating’, playing on the now infamous video of press secretary Allegra Stratton making seemingly sarcastic remarks about the Conservatives' alleged December 2020 festival do.

‘They didn’t have a party, they categorically deny any suggestions that they had a party,’ Ant joked. ‘And this “fictional party” definitely didn’t involve cheese and wine, or a secret Santa.’

‘Evening Prime Minister… for now!’ Dec added.

The moment quickly went viral when posted online, with Kier Starmer referring to it in today’s Prime Ministers Questions. When asking Boris Johnson about the alleged party, the leader of the opposition quipped ‘It's obvious what happened, even Ant and Dec are ahead of the Prime Minister on this. The Prime Minister has been caught red-handed.’

So, what did Boris Johnson have to say? Mostly denials it ever happened.

‘I was also furious to see that clip,’ he said. ‘I apologise unreservedly for the offence it has caused up and down the country. I have been repeatedly assured since these allegations emerged, that there was no party and that no covid rules were broken.

‘I have asked the cabinet secretary to establish all the facts and to report back as soon as possible,’ the prime minister continued. ‘It goes without saying that if those rules were broken then there will be disciplinary actions for all those involved.’

Why is Boris Johnson furious if the party supposedly never happened?

And when told he should resign by SNP Westminster group leader Ian Blackford, Boris replied: 'I will get on with the job. It is very sad that, when the public need clarity, the opposition parties are trying to muddy the waters over events, or not, of a year ago.'

His response is unlikely to go over well with the public. Because the question remains, why is Boris Johnson ‘furious’ if the party apparently never happened?

Either way, we’ll get to see Ant and Dec’s response on tonight’s I’m A Celebrity. We’d sooner have them step in to lead the country at this rate.
