Red Velvet Flavoured Liqueur

Cake and cocktails are arguably two of the best things on planet earth, which is why we’re thrilled by the new trend to combine the two. Aldi has launched a variation of their Ballycastle Irish cream liquor that’s mixed with flavours from red velvet cake. Yum.

Essentially, Ballycastle Irish Cream Liqueur is really similar to Baileys but cheaper. While Aldi’s red velvet bottle is just £7.25, Bailey’s Red Velvet Cupcake is £21.99—It’s hard to argue with those savings. Released in time for Valentine’s Day, the drink is ideal for Galentine’s celebrations, couples, or just anyone sharing the love on February 14.

So, now you can have your cake and…drink it (?) let’s look at the best way to enjoy the red velvet liqueur: If you’re keeping things low maintenance, Ballycastle can simply be poured neat and over ice in a cold glass. But if you want to get a little bit more adventurous, Aldi have suggested a seriously indulgent cocktail to try.

For the I Choco-love You cocktail (cute), you need 70ml of the Ballycastle red velvet cream liqueur, 30ml of black spiced rum, 400ml water, 60g sugar and 60g of cocoa powder.

You then boil 200ml of water in a saucepan, take it off the heat and add the cocoa powder and sugar. Next, you stir in the remaining water and (after the mixture has cooled) add the cream liqueur and rum and leave it to infuse.

Finally, just strain the liquid through a coffee filter to make it smooth and pour it into a glass. Easy.
