If you haven’t seen Michaela Coel’s brilliant new drama, I May Destroy You, you are missing out.
Written, executive produced by and starring Michaela, the 12-part show focuses on Arabella, writer of Chronicles Of A Fed-Up Millennial, who is sexually assaulted, and the impact of the attack on her life and those around her. Asked about the show, the writer has said its ‘definitely not entirely fictional’,
While she has spoken about her own flashbacks to a sexual assault, Michaela says she also did a huge amount of research in other people’s experiences too. ‘I realised that basically I was definitely not alone in wondering why these lines of consent were always blurred, and there were so many different experiences,’ she told the Radio Times.
Constantly beating at the back of the narrative is the deadline for Arabella’s second book – as a writer she gained huge fame for a memoir after being picked up on Twitter, Chronicles Of A Fed-Up Millennial.
The fictional book obviously meant a lot to a generation of young women, with Arabella being stopped in the street several times, by fans eager to take selfies.
Now, a rise in google searches has suggested that people seem to be searching for Chronicles Of A Fed-Up Millennial, to see if it is real, or what it is based on.
The book, however, isn’t real. But there are a lot of great memoirs and essay collections out there from more talented millennial females at the moment. Here are a few you may enjoy.
