Like the rest of us, Adele has been catching up on TV during lockdown. And it turns out she’s a very, very big fan of I May Destroy You{=nofollow} - the new drama written by, and starring, Michaela Coel. In fact, the singer has labelled it best thing on British TV in years. The BBC drama follows author Arabella (Coel) as her life irrevocably changes after she is sexually assaulted in a nightclub.

'I May Destroy You is the best thing I’ve seen on British TV for yeaaaarssss!! Go watch it on iPlayer right now,’ Adele urged her 37.4million followers on Instagram. ‘It’s wholesome, uncomfortable, hilarious but terribly sad and then awkward…and then it makes you cough a bit for no reason and also makes you go put the kettle on, for no reason.’

‘You might pretend you need a pee and then you get a bit itchy, then it makes you ask your girls things you haven’t before,' the singer continued. 'And then makes you want to run out in the street and laugh so hard like mad til you cry for absolute hours! I’ve never felt so many emotions at once!’

‘Absolutely fantastic,' she finished the post. 'Michaela Coel bloody SMASHED it.’

I May Destroy You is released weekly on BBC iPlayer. And if you haven't already, you can watch it here.

Adele made a rare public appearance over the weekend at the virtual Grenfell Tower memorial, on the third anniversary of the tragedy which claimed the lives of at least 72 people.

‘Even though it’s so important for us to remember that night, it’s also important for us to reflect on where we are now and celebrate the lives that were lived before they were sadly taken that night,' Adele - who arrived on the scene hours after the fire - said. 'I think that this year, more than ever, there has never been a more appropriate time for us to truly exercise camaraderie, compassion, open-mindedness and persistence. Persistence for answers. Persistence for action.’
