There is nothing more frustrating than spending your whole morning crafting your makeup to perfection, only to look in a mirror a little while later and find your eyes have smudged, your concealer has fallen, and your lipstick line is bleeding. Like, really?
Following in Kim Kardashian West’s footsteps (naturally), this is no longer an issue, thanks to the intriguingly named ‘sandbagging’ technique.
Just like actual sandbags barricade against flooding, sandbagging essentially creates a barrier around your liquid products and stops them from smudging or running – which is genius.

It’s effectively a take on the beauty trick ‘baking’, where you apply an abundance of translucent loose powder on top of your highlighter and concealer and let it ‘bake’ for about 10 minutes, so that your makeup stays put for a long period of time. Sandbagging takes this technique one step further.
How To Do Sandbagging
Developed by Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, sandbagging involves applying (a lot) of loose powder right up to your waterline and around your mouth, and leaving it there whilst you finish the rest of your makeup.

You then brush the excess powder away and ta-da! It prevents your makeup from creasing, helps the product on your lower lash line stay exactly where you put it, and, most excitingly, it leaves your lipstick looking as if you’ve just applied it, all day long.
This trick is simple and inexpensive and has left us wondering why we didn’t already think of it.
How Is Sandbagging Different To Baking?
Sandbagging is very similar to the makeup trick, 'baking', as both require applying a lot of powder to set makeup. However, baking is intended more to highlight and illuminate, whereas with sandbagging the intention is to apply powder right up to the line to keep it in place.
