White denim. It’s the trend nobody has quite been sure about since the nineties. From the risqué colour through to the obvious shoe x white jean predicaments (FYI the cork wedge just doesn’t cut it anymore), the white denim look has often been left to the Kate Middletons and Elizabeth Hurleys of the world. Until now.
The 'Vetements effect' is of course to blame as we flock to get our denim fix this spring, venturing out into the unknown territory of culottes, frayed hems and even the trans-seasonal denim trench. But if you're feeling like you've worn and faded your go-to blue boyfriend jeans one too many times, then maybe it’s time for white to take centre-stage. To help you navigate these tricky (read: Sloaney) waters, we’ve rounded up the white denim trends you need to know about.
Frayed Hems
Forget the minimalist’s much coveted clean lines and grab your scissors, as frayed hems have never been more talked about. We all kinda wore out the blue frayed jean last season so why not give white a go? Be it artistically aligned frays or a more DIY job, you’ll be bang on trend either way. Take to distressing your jackets, trenches and jeans - basically whatever you can get your hands on. With summer on its way, we're after some DIY shorts especially.
Ripped Knees
Remember when we told you jeans have come over all angsty this season? White jeans are next to takea rebellious turn with many featuring ladders, holes and tears - all sacrificed in the name of fashion. And boy do we love them. Pair your artfully distressed numbers with neutral tones for an effortless look: just add a tee, strappy sandals and trench for trans-seasonal glory.
The Jumpsuit
Because why not? A boiler suit-esque all-in-one number is just what we're after. Pop the collar and roll the sleeves for effortless cool.
The Boyfriend Jean Re-Imagined
The boyfriend jean - a failsafe after raiding your wardrobe and failing to find anything you can pass off as clean or ironed. Thrown on with a a pyjama-esque top and sunnies, this is your key to five-minute dressing. So why not bag a pair in white too?
The Off-White
Still counts, right? If you’re not feeling brave enough, bag yourself a slightly more forgiving hue. Roll up hems are exactly what we're looking for. Pair with brogues to smarten the look.
Dungarees
Ah, the trusty dungarees - the blogger's dream. We've all tried blue denim so why not opt for crisp white? Pair with trainers for the transition into summer and swap them for v-neck mules come evening.
The 70's Flare
The 70's are still very much influencing our wardrobe. For taller figures, white denim flares are a sartorial triumph. Make like Chung and pair with a gold chain belt- very Liz Hurley (in the best possible way...)
The Culotte
Why not bag two trends in one with wide-legged white denim jeans? Pair with a frayed hem top and Celine-esque gold block-heeled pumps for minimalist cool.
The Denim Skirt
We've all owned one at some point in out lives, but a white denim high-waisted version is just what our wardrobes desire. Worn with a simple grey tee and Stan Smiths, you can nail blogger style in one fell swoop.
The Twin-Set
Co-ords are still very much a thing, and a denim set is just what you need for summer. We're after a matching crop and high waisted skirt. Finish with birkenstocks.
Trusty Skinnies
Skinny jeans have been at the back of our minds recently but white skinnies give the look a whole new meaning. Team with an oversized jumper and ankle boots for the unpredictable weather ahead.
