Ah, the nineties. It was the decade we fell head over heels for the velvet choker, layered silky spaghetti-strap dresses over white tees and desperately sought to imitate the art of effortless chic, as demonstrated by nineties style icon Kate Moss.

And this season, fashion's 'It' crowd are seeking sartorial inspiration from the nineties once more.

Just take a moment to analyse model Gigi Hadid’s dominant spot in the street style stakes. The 21-year-old has made a case for the crop top in recent months, teaming it up with waist-skimming deconstructed jeans and tinted sunnies.

And Selena Gomez is following close behind. In recent months, the actress-turned-singer has shaken off her Disney aesthetic with the sartorial aid of nineties style tactic, layering lingerie as outerwear.

And let’s not forget Kendall Jenner’s 21st birthday dress. The model donned a $9,000 chain-mail dress decked in Swarovski crystals for the milestone, inspired by no other than nineties icon Paris Hilton.

The socialite debuted the look for her own 21st birthday back in 2002, in a slinky dress by Labourjoisie, accessorised with a diamond chocker by Noudar. Kendall did however trade in the butterfly clips for minimal earrings.

And the recent surge in nineties fashion is no coincidence. Global fashion giant Lyst has monitored search over the past six months and has revealed that these four nineties tops in particular have garnered attention from the fashion crowd this season:

The Lace Camisole

According to Lyst, there has been a 27 percent in search for the lace camisole top. First donned by the likes of Jennifer Anniston (AKA Rachel Green), the top was often teamed up with bootcut jeans and crimped hair.

And this season, the fashion elite have well and truly adopted the trend. Kendall Jenner and Selena Gomez are the latest 'It' girls to recruit the top this season, often accessoring the look with a velvet choker.

According to Lyst, the most searched for lace camisole of the season is by Zara so make sure to bag the top, asap.

And this season, Kendall Jenner has reinvented the item, teaming it with high-waisted denim skirts and ankle boots. Search for the halter has increased by 105 percent so make sure to bag the 'It' top, asap. Before we do...
