Minimalism is so last season. Hot on the SS17 agenda? Celebrating all things Big, Bold, Bright and Beautiful. Think colourful pom-pom earrings, unexpected palette pairing in abundance (in case you were wondering blue and orange is the new pink and red RN) and colour-yourself-happy ensembles. But for those who are a little bored of hearing about La La Land yellow, there is a new ‘It’ hue in town, courtesy of the street style set (and Her Majesty The Queen AKA our all-time style hero)…
We predict to be seeing a lot of ‘when your dress matches the sea’ OOTD posts on the ‘gram, as celestial blue is enjoying a big moment. Miss Hadid recently rocked a slew of baby blue looks - including a light sweater and matching palazzo pants from New York-based label Sally LaPointe. In keeping with the soft, neutral vibe she kept her accessories simple – with her favourite white ‘sock boots’ and STALVEY microbag.
And it’s not just the 22-year-old supermodel into the blue of late. Queen Elizabeth II donned an oh-so elegant pale cyan co-ord for Trooping the Colour ceremony over the weekend (a clever recycling move from the Royal – originally wearing the same outfit in 2005). Victoria Beckham loves her chic pale blue and white PJ set you can actually wear in public. While Rita Ora recently showed us how to pull off a candy-floss coloured pant suit (no easy feat).
For an easy, breezy nod to the trend we love J.Crew's pinstriped 'Marseille' jumpsuit to channel Brigette Bardot on the French Riviera. Or if you’re more into ear-drobing, see Zara’s new blue party earrings with tassels. According to fashion psychologist Dr Carolyn Mair, Reader in Pycholology at London College of Fashion wearing the hue is associated with ‘confidence and loyalty’. Hmm, time to stock up on summer work wear?
