Over the last three days of London Fashion Week something has come to my attention: there is a single shade dominating the capital and it’s universally flattering. Softer than black, warmer than white, you’d be hard-pressed to find a shade of brown that didn’t suit you.
I’m as bored as anyone of people banging on about so-and-so being the new millennial pink, but honestly, Pantone couldn’t have been further than the truth when they predicted the dominance of living coral in 2019. A quick glance at show-goers of the AW19 shows wearing this year’s spring summer clothes and it’s abundantly obvious that to be on trend one has to wear a shade of terracotta. Be it a Tod’s tobacco, Jacquemus chocolate, a Chloé sand or a Loewe tan, the most style-forward individuals are layering their tones for tip-to-toe impact.
Assembling an outfit is simple as all shades of brown more or less compliment another. Adding a jarring blue or a shot of neon, as Pernille Tiesbaek has tried, adds a hint of drama but a pair of coffee coloured trousers and an oatmeal jumper is equally impactful.
Channel your inner Brownie and take a nod to the 70s with this infinitely wearable trend.
