At one point in the not-so-distant past, only one style of jeans reigned supreme. Celebrities wore them, all of your friends wore them and you wore them even if they weren't that comfortable. I am, of course, referring to the skinny jean, which looked like it would be the world's favourite style of denim forever. Victoria Beckham, however, has other ideas.
Spotted in New York, VB showcased a pair of denim flares, which she wore with a silk ruffled £650 shirt(her own design, of course) a white blazer (also by Victoria Beckham) and an Hermès Birkin bag. Not only was VB tapping into the distinct '70s vibes of the moment, recently exacerbated by the new Halston series on Netflix, she was also reiterating fashion's penchant for baggier, more wide-legged jeans this season.
Gone is the restrictive 'skinny' silhouette, only to be replaced by loose denim. From Chloe to Balenciaga to Paco Rabanne and, obviously, Victoria Beckham's own eponymous label, flared, baggy jeans are the order of the day for spring/summer 2021. There was a particular emphasis on pairing them with tailoring, too, whether that be Beckham's blouse or Balenciaga's slouchy shirts.
Don't think these jeans are just a flash in the pan, though. Fashion editors were beside themselves when they caught sight of The Row's white flared jeans included in the brand's autumn/winter 2021 collection. This suggests that, long after summer has faded, we'll still be taking a leaf out of VB's book and pulling on our own bell-bottoms.
