The weather hasn't made its mind up but summer is still coming and that means it's time to start thinking about all those hot-weather trends that have been patiently waiting on the back-burner. From sheer trousers to this summer's most sensible shoe, here are the seven you'll want to bookmark immediately if not sooner.
Sheer
Peekaboo sheers popped up all over the catwalks as designers played the classic game of reveal and conceal. Take your cue from Acne Studios - and Rihanna, who recently sported the trend - by pairing your transparent trousers with a longline blazer to make them PG enough for a restaurant outing.
Maxi Skirts
Although Simon Porte Jacquemus is certainly backing the miniskirt for summer 2021, he also has time for its more subtly sexy older sister, the maxi. Seen here on the divine Sabina Karlsson, we suggest wearing with yours with a shorn-off shirt and some naked sandals (temperatures permitting) to deliver proper impact at a pub garden near you.
Bra Tops
Or instead of a shorn-off shirt, why not go full throttle with the kind of bralette that was spotted at Chanel? Isn't this the ideal after-dark look? You could make it day-appropriate, however, by pairing instead with some high-waisted shorts and a loudly-printed shirt.
Ballet Pumps
Kate Moss recently resurrected her ballet pumps, and they cropped up several times at Celine. In other words, it's totally fair game to dig out your peppiest pair (bows and all). Just make sure to wear them with things like broken-in jeans and baseball caps to avoid looking too King's Road.
Cut-Outs
This scooped-back and majorly easy-breezy dress came with oval-shaped cut-outs just above each hip at Gabriela Hearst. And why not? We might still be wearing jumpers and jeans, but there will come a time, trust me, when slivers of skin will be back on the menu.
Happy Prints
Happy prints, the kind that can't help but make you smile on a Monday, are officially back in business after months of non-stop neutrals. Dior's tie-dye anorak contained the spirit of Glastonbury, but splashy florals, zingy stripes (seen most effectively at Christopher John Rogers) and eye-popping geometrics will also go the distance.
Clogs
If summer 2021 belongs to one shoe, it's got to be the clog. Sensible, and 100% stylish just in case you had any doubts, Hermès's wooden-soled and leather-studded pair is the ultimate, and has already been spotted on the most discerning of influencers. You'll never have to hobble home with blisters again.
