Sheer Column Skirts Are Everywhere At The Moment – And The Best One Is This Sell-Out £55 M&S Style

'Is skirt off sick?' Not a message you'd expect to pop up nowadays on Teams, but a mood, nonetheless, that you might be projecting if you decide to get into bed with the latest skirt trend.

For autumn/winter, the kilt might be trending by day but for night, it's all about sheer column skirts. If it wasn't already obvious, this probably isn't one for a shared working space - not unless you want to bring new meaning to the term hot desking. Instead, it's one to save for after dark - although not if you're sitting on the front row at fashion month. In Milan, Solange Knowles wore a trifecta of sheer bottom halves for Jil Sander (above), Gucci and Ferragamo, where her skirt wasn't so much sheer as fringed to flash a stretch of leg from upper thigh to ankle.

Outside the shows, the street-style set also got the memo. Tamu McPherson contrasted a beaded column skirt that had butter-wouldn't-melt appeal with a cosy knit, styling the look with kitten-heeled pumps for a naughty-but-nice feel. Another show-goer pulled off a similar combo, styling her semi-sheer pencil with a blue shirt, a butter yellow sweater and big knickers (big enough to rival Bridget's).

Although their versions are likely to cost at least three figures, the good news is that the high street also has game when it comes to see-through skirts that will be suitably pulse-racing ahead of party season. To wit, Marks & Spencer, whose silk-organza column skirt comes with a panel to protect your modesty. It's been so popular, it's already sold out once but is, thankfully, back in stock (for now).

Zara's crochet pencil skirt, meanwhile, has a peekaboo hemline, which can be dressed up or down with a bandeau top or a white button-down.

If barely-there is your new MO, however, Siedres has a low-rise beaded midi skirt that will clean up ahead of Christmas - and you could always wear a slip underneath if you want to skirt the issue somewhat.
