It may have been only a matter of weeks since new-mum Paris Hilton welcomed her baby boy, Phoenix, to the world, but she's already back to work. Hosting her launch party at the ‘House of Y2K’ for the Paris Hilton x Klarna ‘That’s Smoooth’ campaign, she paid homage to the chainmail Julien MacDonald dress she wore to her 21st birthday party – 21 years ago! The mini dress has since been worn by Kendall Jenner on her own 21st birthday in 2016, and by friend Kim Kardashian in 2018. But no one rewears the truly iconic look as much as the queen of Y2K, Paris Hilton herself.
The key components Paris sticks to for this mini dress outfit she wears on heavy rotation is the mini, silver and shiny, topped off with a key early '00s accessory: the choker necklace. And more specifically, a matching chainmail style. For the recent event, Paris wore a chainmail bandeau dress with matching sparkly court heels (we told you they're making a comeback), glitzy bag, earrings and even fingerless gloves – another accessory she also seems to rate.
Back in 2002, though, Paris wore the cowl-neck halter dress with giant butterfly clips, a tiara (she said on Instagram it was one of her 'most iconic Y2K birthday Princess looks') along with bow-detail heels and of course, the choker necklace. We're pretty sure this dress should be in a museum, never to be forgotten. And if Paris has anything to do with it, it never will with the amount of times she has copied the outfit.
In 2009, the original influencer wore a silver sequin strapless mini dress with matching necklace, Cartier watch, Fendi Baguette and Cinderella pumps to another one of her birthdays. This time, she also went one step further with an embellished headband – we all remember these, right?
Donning yet another silver mini to the launch party of her Boohoo collection in 2018, Paris wore oversized glitter sunnies, court heels, a sparkly choker, another watch and again, fingerless gloves. The Simple Life star has definitely stayed loyal to the same accessories over the years.
We haven't seen fingerless gloves in forever, and now we can't stop seeing them! Paris also wore a silver sequin mini with (yes, you guessed it) a choker necklace on the red carpet in 2019. And yep, she wore a watch and courts again. No matter your opinion on Paris Hilton, she certainly knows her style – and it's a Y2K dream.
The best part is, silver mini dresses just so happen to be a mini trend (quite literally) this year, so you can find them at the likes of Mango and Monki to Raey and Retrofête. Chokers are also one of the many throwback trends making a comeback, so we've found the best ones to wear with said dresses. That's hot!
