When Two Fashion Forces Collide: Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe

It will sell out.

When two of the most influential names in fashion join forces, the results rarely disappoint. We’ve seen it with Wales Bonner x Adidas Sambas, Crocs x Simone Rocha, and Ganni x New Balance. Now, Nike and Jacquemus take another turn, reviving one of Nike’s earliest and most experimental creations: the Moon Shoe.

The original Moon Shoe dates back to 1972, when Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman poured liquid rubber into his wife’s waffle iron in search of a lightweight, grippy sole for track athletes. The shoe left crater-like footprints on the ground hence the name and while only a handful were made, its DNA helped shape Nike’s future icons like the Waffle Trainer.

More than 50 years on, Simon Porte Jacquemus has given the Moon Shoe its first official reinterpretation. He strips it back into something sleek, modern, and unmistakably his. The ruched nylon upper, leather Swoosh, and sculpted Nike Regrind sole keep ties to its racing past, but the overall silhouette feels fresh - low to the ground, sharp, and infused with the softness of today’s ballet-inspired footwear trend.

‘I saw a unique, minimal running shoe that was both timeless and modern in its simplicity,’ Jacquemus said of discovering the Moon Shoe in Nike’s archives. His version carries that same minimalism but brings it firmly into 2025.

The Moon Shoe lands at exactly the right moment. Fashion has fallen for ballet pumps, soft Mary Janes, and anything close to the ground. This trainer plays into that moodboard while offering something sporty.

Pair with wide-leg tailoring or puddle hem trousers so just the pointed toe peeks out, or with a floaty skirt to lean into the ballet crossover. Nike x Jacquemus dresses are a perfect companion in the Moon Shoe’s pared back profile. Minimal styling is key. Or, put differently, let the shoe do the work.

The trainer made its debut on Jacquemus’ spring 2025 runway in Paris and comes in three colourways: a Jacquemus exclusive alabaster, plus off-noir and university red. The Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe officially launches September 29th, but the red and black versions are available to shop on Farfetch now.
