Meghan Markle can't step out of the house without generating headlines all around the world. So a bumper weekend of public appearances in New York, the last of which saw her wearing a LWD (that's the little white dress), is naturally still a topic of conversation. And although we loved the wine-coloured two-piece (Loro Piana), not to mention the classic camel coat (Max Mara), it's the LWD, an embellished number from Valentino, that we can't stop thinking about.
Although all looks across the couple's first outing since the arrival of baby Lilibet were a lesson in back-to-business dressing, it's the white dress that stands out as something different, helping us hold onto a hint of summer, while also edging towards party season. The shorter hemline, embellished detail and retro cut is making us want to bring back the mini dress. And we're not the only one. Micro hemlines made waves on the runway at the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Off-White and Versace for AW21 - and with them comes an air of nostalgia.
That feeling of getting dressed up to go out, putting on your favourite short dress and wearing heels you come to regret is second to none. And thanks to Markle, who proved that the little white dress can reign supreme for any season and any occasion, it looks set to become an all-year-round hero buy to wear on repeat. Granted hers costs £3,300 from Valentino (the dream), but there are plenty of options to suit all budgets. & Other Stories' tiered and puff-sleeved mini, for example, would look brilliant with tennis socks and pumped-up trainers.
