Dressing for summer in the city can be tricky. Finding an outfit that works for sweaty commutes, freezing office air-con and inevitable surprise showers that still looks smart and put together is no mean feat but there’s one item that’s emerged as my summer wardrobe hero: the Mango waistcoat. Whilst waistcoats have been one of the biggest trends for 2024, note the sell-out button-down tops by Aligne and Reformation, Mango’s latest offering has brought a more summery aesthetic to tailored tops.

Whilst classic black will always have its place, this stripy waistcoat in joyful shades of buttery yellow and peach is a welcome upgrade to plain block colours. Smart enough for the office or for evening drinks, the lightweight fabric means this wouldn’t look out of place on your holidays or even at the beach with linen trousers and flip-flops. I’ve been wearing mine with my current favourite barrel leg jeans or slouchy tailored trousers for an easy warm-weather work outfit, switching out flat sandals for kitten heels and adding big earrings for the evening. What’s even better is Mango also has matching trousers so you can go for the full co-ord, another of summer’s biggest trends.

The top itself can be adjusted at the back but I recommend sizing up if you’ve got a bigger bust to avoid the buttons pulling and the flattering square neckline will cover and bra straps. Plus, the fabric is a linen blend meaning there’ll be no stubborn creases if it’s been folded up in your suitcase. Whilst this style is selling out fast, there are plenty of similar versions out there right now.
