If there's one woman who doesn't need help navigating her re-emergence wardrobe it's Kate Moss. But the model also has inspiration for the rest of us as the new campaign star for Self-Portrait, the ultimate dressy dress label that will, no doubt, be cropping up at a wedding near you sometime this summer.
Photographed by Nigel Shafran, Moss appears wearing the brand's pre-fall 2021 collection, which is available as of this morning, and, together, they've totally captured the mood of the moment: optimism. Optimism, especially, that our wardrobes might mean something more than loungewear and leggings in the not-too-distant future. In one campaign shot, Moss appears wearing a black tuxedo blazer with nothing underneath (imagine the reaction to that down your local), in another, she's leaning sultrily against a wall wearing a spangled white lace gown.
Han Chong, the brand's founder and creative director, says, to him, Moss is the ultimate Self-Portrait woman. 'If you ask me who optimises the Self-Portrait spirit and woman, it is, and always has been, Kate Moss. Her enormous appetite for life and her infectious sense of fun are what characterise the women I think about when I’m designing my collections - there is this sense of freedom, of effortlessness, of embracing life. It’s this attitude that inspires my work now more than ever, as the world readies itself to emerge from confinement, with a revived purpose.'
Moss said: 'What I love about Self-Portrait is their unique style and versatility which appeals to many different women. Han designs for the modern woman and I love his approach to the creative process. When they approached me to work together on this campaign I was excited - I really love the images we created together.'
Moss is hot on the heels of Phoebe Dynevor, who was cast as the face of Self-Portrait's autumn/winter 2021 collection. It marks something of shift for the brand, which is clearly enjoying a renaissance of sorts. Well, if it's good enough for Kate Moss...
