As a fashion editor, scrolling through Instagram is part of my job (that’s what I tell myself when I’m late night doomscrolling, anyway). As an endless pit of inspiration, I love seeing what other fashion people are buying, and more importantly, how they’re wearing them. And I’ve noticed that some of my favourite content creators are all choosing to swerve classic summery white trousers in favour of another hue – and no, it’s not beige. Instead, everyone is wearing a shade of greenthat actually feels new. Khaki pairs will of course always be relevant, but this lighter, softer colour that looks more olive to me is one that I can get on board with. So much so, I’ve just treated myself to a pair by Rails (keep scrolling to shop them) that I know I’ll wear on heavy rotation throughout the rest of the year. Because the main appeal of this shade is that it isn’t tied to one season, it’s a colour that’ll take pride of place for summer, through to autumn and even winter with some clever styling.
Want to know how to style olive green trousers right now? I’ll show you the outfits that inspired me to buy a pair as soon as I saw them, and the two ways everyone seems to be wearing them.

If you don't follow @nlmarilyn and @chloekathbutler, believe me, you'll want to as they're both masters of mixing designer pieces with high street. I instantly fell in love with Marilyn's Zara trousers (they've unfortunately sold out, *sob*) paired with a white vest, red windbreaker jacketand The Row Margaux bag. Then there's Chloe who also went down the white vest route to style her Sézane pair (they've sold out, too, double *sob*). But the good news is you can still copy this outfit formula as I've found lots of other iterations – plus, you no doubt already own a white vest and big bag already.

Although it's the light green that's making these trousers feel fresh for 2025, I also like how both Francesca and Monikh have opted for a slightly deeper shade. And how have they styled them? With red flip flops (Monikh'sThe Row style are still key) and a floaty white top. Effortless. And come autumn, all you'll have to do is add a light knit or trench coat with ballet flats.
Now you know how to style them, here's some of the pairs – from satin and linen to jeans – that'll update your outfits with minimal effort.

This is the pair I've recently bought, and they fit like the dream. The perfect length (I'm 5' 4"), fit (thanks so the stretch waist) and shade (I love the worn-look green) they're an all-round winner in my eyes.

In a slightly deeper green, these JW Anderson baggy barrel-leg jeans will be the perfect transitional piece to add to your wardrobe. With a white vest top and red flip flops for now, and socks and loafers and a knit for autumn – the styling potential is huge.

These look so fresh compared to other linen trousers, I love how they look silky even thought they almost 100% linen – well done, Massimo Dutti.
