It's getting to the dreaded winter season, and finding the best faux fur coat is imminently moving up our priority list. Timeless, snug and oh-so-fashionable, there's a reason these fur jackets have been unfailing for years and, more importantly, why they're back and better than ever as one of the best coats to invest in.
Championed by the A-list and the street-style set alike, this winter staple can make even the most basic outfit look refined and as the saying goes: the bigger the better. Dua Lipa recently stepped out in a maxi-length faux fur coat, worn casually over a barely-there open knit naked dress - the ultimate cool-girl evening out look.
But, although you may be simply thinking of the neutral and mink-toned faux fur jackets, the truth is that gone are the days when our faux fur was simply black or brown. In 2023, it's anything goes, opt for bright block shades of red, pink or blue or even embrace the theme and opt for the not-so-subtle leopard print.
Afraid of committing to the glam look? Worried about looking a little Cruella De Vil? Try a neutral, classic tone - black or brown - for starters, and wear with casual classics, tank tops and slouchy jeans. Or if you're off for an evening out, a faux fur jacket is the perfect pairing for your LBD or evening dress - keeping up with the glamour.
Shop our favourite faux fur coats below (perhaps the most sought-after autumn coats), including choices from & Other Stories, Jakke, M&S and more. You’re welcome.

What Are Faux Fur Coats Made From?
When animal rights activists started to create awareness over the moral wrongdoings of wearing real animal fur, we saw a shift in the fashion industry to a synthetic version of the sought-after animal coats, including leather and shearling coats. Faux fur came in as a more ethical option - plus, it was a whole lot more affordable than the real thing. Now, you can invest in faux fur coats that are both stylish and chic as much as they are high-quality and good for the planet. You don't have to go too far to find a faux fur option either, with brands from high-street to high-end stocking faux fur jackets that look as good as real fur.
What are they made from, though? Well, when faux fur started getting bigger, brands embraced synthetic materials designed to mimic the appearance and texture of real animal fur. You'll find these made out of fibres like acrylic, polyester and modacrylic which are all made with a variety of characteristics which replicates that of real fur.
You can still find real animal skin in products like leather coats or shearling jackets, so it's really a personal choice on whether or not you'd rather go real or fake. There's enough out there on the market to make the choice for yourself, so make sure to do your research so you know what you're really investing in.
