We've had the return of velour tracksuits, visible thongs, the butterfly trend and even Bennifer - but this week we hit the pinnacle of Y2K revival: Return To Tiffany.

Best known for its iconic heart tag, the Return To Tiffany collection - launched by luxury New York jeweller Tiffany & Co in 1966 - has long been a powerful symbol of late 90's/noughties style. It's loved by celebs and movie characters alike (we're looking at you, Elle Woods) and now it seems, Gen Z are on board.

In an attempt to capture a younger market, Tiffany announced its first streetwear collaboration and has partnered up with skate brand Supreme to produce a blockbuster six-piece collection. Drawing on the famed tag, the new collection is emblazoned with “Return to Supreme” and includes pearls, sterling silver keychains, a star bracelet, and of course, heart tag earrings.

Supreme teased the collaboration over the weekend on its instagram and, come Monday, both brands had confirmed the November 11 release. Since then, global fashion shopping platform Lyst has reported page views for jewels stamped with the phrase “Please Return to Tiffany & Co.”– which inspired the collaboration – are up 46% week-on-week.

Tiffany has been making some big moves of late, partnering with celebrities such as Beyoncé and Jay Z, Hailey Bieber and Wizards star Kyle Kuzma. Ariana Grande was also seen on instagram pairing her tracksuit with a classic chain link Return to Tiffany necklace. The resurgence for early 2000s style is only getting stronger, it seems.

If you had a birthday of note in the early 2000s, the number one piece on your list was a Tiffany necklace or bracelet, adorned with a round or heart-shaped tag engraved with “Please Return to Tiffany & Co. New York", and a unique registration number so that if it were ever lost, the finder could return it to the Fifth Avenue store, where it could be reunited with its owner.

The bracelet cemented itself in the noughties hall-of-fame the minute it was seen dangling from the wrists of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, who had the 18k yellow gold versions that we could only dream of. For the rest of us, owning one wasn’t totally out of the question, you could pick up a sterling silver pendant for around £200 (which isn't cheap, but something to save your Saturday job cash for back in 2002).

While in 2021 we may be reaching for a dog tag necklace in a somewhat ironic fashion, there's no doubting that - after quite the hiatus – the heart-shaped tag is back.
