It's official: our favourite winter accessory, the humble beanie hat, has got the celeb seal of approval. And thank goodness because it's pretty cold out there - have you noticed? Slash, have you talked about anything else this morning? Didn't think so.

In the past few weeks, A-listers have been giving us all some excellent beanie inspiration. Kate Holmes has been repeat-wearing a stealth-wealth cream style that's minimal on bells and whistles - i.e. no pom pom or turn-up - but maximal on chic points, especially when styled with a camel overcoat that almost skims the ankles (hers is The Frankie Shop). EmRata wears her bright red beanie, meanwhile, with a grey marl hoodie, a puffer coat and tracksuit bottoms, creating an outfit that's a) appropriate for the cold snap and b) actually feels doable this January.

You may have also noticed more and more influencers wearing them on Instagram, stashing away the buckets and berets for something cashmere with proper ear coverage. Monikh Dale favours a chunky fisherman-style beanie in cream. Kelly Rutherford (aka, Gossip Girl's Lily van der Woodsen, aka, taker of the chicest mirror selfies on Instagram) also swears by beanies with a certain 'big knit energy', wearing hers with simple outfits like a single-breasted coat, white jeans and lace-up hiking-style boots.

Begg x Co’s cashmere beanies, which come in a cheerful array of colours, will last for ages. Acne Studios, meanwhile, is a fashion-editor favourite for beanies - and its grey version will go with anything in your wardrobe. And over on the high street, there are so many cheerful beanies to choose from (check out H&M, Whistles, Hush and COS). Oh, and stay warm.
