If you've spent any time on the internet in the last few months, you may have noticed than Anne Hathaway is enjoying a renaissance of sorts. From her truly excellent style to her honesty about the humiliation she felt as a result of the way in which she was treated online, the actor is finally receiving the recognition she deserves. Her latest win? The fact that everyone (read: many, many Whatsapp groups and a lot of social media) are obsessively discussing her new rom-com, The Idea Of You.

In the film, Hathaway plays Solène, a 40-year old mother who (spoiler alert!) falls in love with a 24 year-old boy-band member (played by Nicholas Galitzine) after a happenstance meeting at Coachella, and so a whirlwind of romance, drama and astonishingly chic outfits unfolds.

From the moment Solène steps onto our screens, we know we're in for a treat. With her sweeping coats, power blazers and vintage denim ensembles, the character embodies an effortlessly cool aesthetic, a credit perhaps to her French ancestry. Brands such as Chloé and Isabel Marant are used to further cement this, giving the protagonist a Jane Birkin vibe. 'Just a cool French girl,' says costume designer Jacqueline Demetrio, when asked about her inspirations for Hathaway's character.

Throughout the movie, Demetrio astutely uses fashion as a tool to signify Solène's gradual transition from an artsy, put-together LA mum to edgy boy band girlfriend. The protagonist is initially introduced to us in a modest Chloé balloon-sleeve navy dress but, as the story unfolds, we see her character select bolder pieces. From a pair of vintage Versace leather jeans (!), to a sheer Fendi sheer two-piece, Solène's style evolves as she's thrown into August Moon's world, a far cry from her LA life as a gallery-owner.

The Dior trench

As she steps foot onto August's private jet, Solène wears a floor-length Dior Trench (for which we've also found the perfect high-street dupe) as well as Celine's signature cat-eye sunnies.

The denim kaftan

While lounging on a sun-bed with August's friends, Solène shies away in this full-coverage Valentino Garavani Kaftan as well as a wonderful Camilla scarf.

The one-piece swimsuit

Going through a slight crisis as she prepares for lounging poolside (which feels almost absurd given the character is played by Hathaway), Solène's character opts for a floral one-piece by Camilla.

The Isabel Marant tote

Accessories took centre stage in this movie, and Solène's Coachella carry-all is none other than Isabel Marant - and still available to shop.

The velvet trousers

Costumer designer Jacqueline Demetrio marked Hathaway's transition from artsy LA mum to boy-band girlfriend the best way she knew how: Saint Laurent. The Velvet Trousers are still available to shop - but not for long.

The silk skirt

In a love-filled montage, Solène wears a dark green silk skirt by Rick Owens which is now sadly out of stock. As luck has it, we've found the perfect alternative, plus the exact shoes Hathaway wears.

The crochet top

Another Saint Laurent, this time a summer crochet top, delicately paired with a floral skirt.

Red power blazer

Towards the end of the movie, Hathaway's character is seen in a red blazer, a symbol of her confidence and power as she claims the narrative of her life back into her own hands. Shop the exact Gabriela Hearst suit below.
