Victoria Beckhamhas defied any naysayers who emerged at the beginning of her foray into fashion by morphing into a designer who seems to really understand what women want to wear. From perfectly-cut dresses to hard working knitwear, VB has quickly become the go-to for those looking for stylish, feminine pieces that make getting dressed a joy. Now, she has designedan exclusive collection especially for The Outnet, meaning we can now all buy into her coveted aesthetic for less.
'I think what I’ve created over the past 13 years is a true modern wardrobe,' Beckham says. 'Our signature elements are beautifully-cut tailoring, elegant dresses, elevated denim and menswear-inspired shirting.' Indeed, all of those elements feature in The Outnet's offering, including cotton-poplin shirts for less than £100 and really beautiful knits you'll want to wear all season long.
It has to be said that, in her clothes, VB manages to achieve an elusive harmony between smart and playful, which is perhaps why they feel so lovely to wear. As she says, 'There’s always an element of playfulness, a slight eccentricity, whether that’s a unique print or a bright, unexpected colour somewhere it wouldn’t typically be used. I don't take myself too seriously and neither do my designs.'
The majority of the collection was created using existing fabrics from the VB archive but for Beckham, that's not the only way she sees these pieces as sustainable. 'Our pieces are designed to become staples in our customer’s wardrobes. We work with the very best materials and factories to ensure that everything we create is of the highest quality and made to last.'
Given that high heels are now hugely back in favour, it may not surprise you to know that VB has still not abandoned her love of the shoes, incorporating several different styles of heel into her Outnet collection. In fact, she says, a great blazer and a pair of heels would be her go-to pieces to boost her spirits. 'You feel instantly put together, even if you’re only wearing jeans and a T-shirt.'
Speaking of her inspirations, Beckham cites her love of modern art. 'We recently went to a brilliant immersive experience in Miami which had huge projection, light and mirror installations, which instantly sparked some ideas for prints.' And, as ever, it's her family which brings her the most joy. 'Now the boys are (almost) all grown up and living away from home, family time is so precious and we never take it for granted.'
Given that this collection offers a more affordable way to mix Victoria Beckham into your wardrobe, there's a strong chance it will sell incredibly quickly. 'I’m so inspired by my community,' Beckham says of her loyal customer base. 'So I’d say the ultimate VB woman is someone who has a career, has a varied social life, and understands the need for balance in life. But she’s also someone who really loves, and enjoys, fashion.'
