How to dress this coming party season? With your pins front and centre, declared the fashion designer during a recent Zoom call, dressed in a striped blue and white shirt and high-waist denim jeans. ‘I have a real desire to wear short again! But how do I do ‘short’ in a way I haven’t before?’

Rather than mine her '90s Spice Girls tourdrobe – a glorious plethora of skimpy LBDs and Hervé Léger bandage dresses - the result is a spanking new collection of American Gigolo-inspired tailoring, driven by her love of Lauren Hutton. ‘Lauren really owning her shit – excuse my language – was the inspiration.’

Firstly, there’s a super-chic, double-breasted tuxedo blazer which can also be worn as a thigh-grazing minidress (already an A-list approved look as seen on Dakota Johnson and Meghan Markle).

Then there’s an edit of ‘sexy, short dresses’ to ‘flatter and skim the body’: think silk, lace, pleats and plenty of black. ‘It’s all about balance’, says the designer, who will be styling hers with second-skin, thigh-high boots for added ‘toughness’. ‘It makes it feel new and fresh.’

The new collection, which will start dropping instore in November, is the first with Beckham’s newly appointed design director Lara Barrio. ‘I’m really proud - it truly feels like a comeback collection,’ says Victoria, who admits she’s fallen in love her job again. ‘It’s an evolution of me and what I’m doing. I’m excited to go to work every day - I’m enjoying the creative process and being inspired by the team.’
