It's back to business on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival, which kicked off yesterday in resplendent style with the premiere of Parallel Mothers. And the assembled stars most definitely brought their A-game. Cynthia Erivo brought the house down in a spangled gown, with a thigh-high slit, from Atelier Versace; Helen Mirren dazzled in head-to-toe sequins from Dolce & Gabbana (complete with a twinkling headband); Bianca Balti arrived looking like a modern day Belle, wearing an egg yolk yellow gown also from Dolce & Gabbana.

What Is The Venice Film Festival Schedule?

The festival kicked off last week and will roll out its jam-packed schedule of screenings (both public and pass holder-only) until September 11. There's already buzz surrounding several items in the running for the Golden Lion, the festival's biggest honour, including Parallel Mothers (Madres Paralelas), starring Penelope Cruz, Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon, starring Kate Hudson, Craig Robinson and Jeon Jong-seo, The Power of the Dog, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst, The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal's directorial debut starring Olivia Coleman, and, of course, Spencer, starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana.
