Between Ganni, Stine Goya, Pernille Tiesbaek and Jeanette Madsen, Denmark is a melting pot of exceedingly stylish influencers and emerging brands. Copenhagen may be a small metropolis but today a new brand launches from this fashion hotbed that’s already destined to have a global impact, Rotate Birger Christensen.
In true Scandi style, the look is a little eccentric and the silhouettes are architectural. Soaring 80s shoulders on a slinky pink wrap dress, a diminutive jacquard dress and a crystal-embellished wool blazer stand out as easy heroes of the line.
Earlier this year at Copenhagen fashion week, Rotate debuted its Collection 1. The range is small - just 10 pieces made their debut on Net-A-Porter today - but the impact, we predict, will be mighty. Why? Sure the accessible pricing and micro-party dresses are appealing, but it certainly helps that the brains steering the brand are Thora Valdimars and Jeannete Friss Madsen who have a collective Instagram following of 178,300.
'The collection is sexy and powerful with wild pink colors and statement shoulders,' the founders tell Grazia, 'We have gone through archives of the seventies for inspiration, which is reflected clearly in elements such as deep V-necklines, wrap shapes and textured fabrics.' They tell us they started the label because they couldn't find the perfect party dress, 'we wanted to make a line that was more extravagant. However, one of the most important factors was that the line was affordable.'
More and more influencers are diversifying and attaching themselves to brands. They are filling in the gaps in their already dreamy wardrobes with designs of their own making. So far, so successful for Alexa Chung (and her brand ALEXACHUNG), Jeanne Damas with Rouje and Katie Sturino (of The 12ish Style) with Megababe. When you are the brand it’s a natural progression to make merchandise, but it just so happens that for these key opinion leaders their merch is seriously tempting.
