We've really been spoilt for great fashion on TV recently. From And Just Like That...and its combination of designer and vintage pieces to Succession's surprise gilets and Ted Baker dresses, clothes seem more important than ever on our favourite shows. One woman who truly understands this is Patricia Field, the woman responsible for Carrie Bradshaw's most notable looks inSex and the City__. More recently, she was the consulting costume designer for Emily In Paris – and it seems she has some things to say about her favourite looks from that show.
Speaking toVariety__, Field explained that she wanted to keep things interesting. 'As fashion these days has become rather monotonous and boring (jeans, sneakers, etc.), [season two] was the perfect opportunity to develop Emily’s style as more colorful and optimistic.'
Colourful it certainly was, and with a mix of designer and high street pieces. In fact, two looks which Field picks out as her favourites are from H&M and, unbelievably, Pretty Little Thing. The former comes in the shape of a red tulle dress worn by Emily (Lily Collins) from H&M's collaboration with Giambattista Valli. Field says it was picked out by fellow costume designer Marylin Fitoussi.
Mindy (Ashley Park) wears a Pretty Little Thing co-ord in episode six of season two, which is still available to buy for £50.
As well as these two high street hits, Field cites Emily's Mary Katrantzou dress from episode four as another highlight, along with [Sylvie's {href='https://graziadaily.co.uk/fashion/news/emily-in-paris-fashion-sylvie/' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'}) Christian Siriano suit from episode 10. The amazing Rianna + Nina look worn by Julien (Samuel Arnold) also gets a mention, which he wears to the fashion show in the same episode.
Field also explained the overall aim for season two of the show, saying she wanted 'to slowly develop Emily in a bit of a more sophisticated and professional way without destroying her signature style… Emily’s co-workers vary differently. They are French and mostly older and that gave me an opportunity to contrast an American style with French chic.'
Now, we just have to wait for season three.
