It's all about Big Dress Energy.

It’s fair to say that J.Lo stole the show at last night’s Palm Springs International Film Festival. Not only did she scoop the Spotlight Award for Hustlers, a film that has a group of gutsy New York strippers who steal from their clients at its centre, but she debuted her red carpet strategy for awards season in floral, full-skirted and flamboyantly-trained Richard Quinn.

The dress in question, from the London Fashion Week designer’s spring/summer 2020 collection, seems to suggest that J.Lo is gunning for Oscar’s glory in full princess mode. And we wouldn’t expect anything less.

This, after all, is the woman who almost broke Instagram last year after a surprise appearance for Versace’s finale in Milan. The 50 year-old stormed the runway in a retool of the jungle print dress that prompted Google to create its Images search function in 2000.

As a frequent collaborator with Donatella Versace - she choose a spangled silver gown by the Italian house for last year’s Met Gala - it wouldn’t surprise us if she went for something in jewel-toned sequins for either the Golden Globes or Baftas.

She’s also a bit of a dab hand at tulle, once filling an entire limo with layers of the stuff in neon-pink by Giambattista Valli, so her stylist Rob Zangardi will probably have Ralph & Russo, Eli Saab, Valentino and Zuhair Murad, the ultimate in ball gowns with big personality, on speed dial for the Academy Awards.

There’s a amethyst-toned, off-the-shoulder number from Valentino with her name on it - and a firetruck red Elie Saab gown that will read ‘winner’. The Oscar nominations are announced on 13 January. Until then, we already know who’s a shoo-in for best dressed.
