Jonah Hill has provided much sartorial joy over the last year, proudly displaying his truly mesmerising wardrobe at a time when all we needed to see were pictures of him wearing loud shirts and cuddling his dog. And it is he, along with his girlfriend Sarah Brady, who just reinvented couples dressing for 2021.
In an era where Instagram dominates daily life and news reaches us immediately (and constantly), you might have thought that a famous couple wearing matching outfits would not have the same resonance as it did in, say, 1999, when David and Victoria Beckham wore matching leather Versace outfits. Or indeed in 2001, when Britney and Justin attended the American Music Awards in head-to-toe denim. But you'd be wrong – for this is Jonah Hill, after all.
To attend the premiere of Don't Look Up in New York, Hill and Brady wore matching blue Gucci suits (sans shirts, obv) which they both paired with printed satin loafers. They even both pinned brooches to their lapels and had matching surfer hair.
Arguably, Jeff Goldblum should be credited with such a comeback for matchy-matchy outfits. It was only in 2019 that he and his wife, Emilie Livingston, thrilled the internet with their matching Prada shirts.
The real questions to consider, here, are whose idea was this – Jeff's or Emilie's? Jonah's or Sarah's? Did either couple consult a Pinterest board littered with pictures of Britney and Justin in all their denim glory? And most importantly of all, is this proof that not even a pandemic can stop us caring about what celebrities wear? Yes, I think it is.
