There is no analysis needed about why we are increasingly making a beeline for mood-boosting, spirit-soaring clothes right now. Hello, just look at the news. And it’s just one of the reasons why cult East London brand House of Sunny continues to soar in popularity; it’s quickly forging a reputation as a go-to for clothes that can raise a smile – even when that’s the last thing you feel like doing.
Testament to the pertinence of its optimistic aesthetic, the label-to-know scored an Instagram hit last summer with its Hockney dress. Featuring groovy swirls, the acid green dress was seen on the likes of Kendall Jenner and sold-out several times. That piece proved that do-it-all designs don’t necessarily need to be understated; it also spoke to our demand for comfort (knitted, stretchy) and the unlikely return of sexy dressing (figure hugging).
Now with the unveiling of the playful AW21 collection, ‘Ride a White Swan’ – described in the press notes as ‘Disney’s Fantasia meets the Yellow Submarine’ – House of Sunny looks set to score some more hits, whether on Instagram or IRL. For starters, the Hockney is back – refreshed for the new season in sea blue (you can still pre-order the OG version now). Want something a little less revealing? There’s also a long-sleeved knit dress that is equally statement-making. The brand’s hit Peggy cardigan also returns in new colours. See also the cartoon daisy cardigan, which is trippy evolution of the kitsch Princess Diana knits that started doing the rounds at the end of last year.
There’s certainly no shortage of the good vibes House of Sunny has become known for, not least because there’s an emphasis on sustainable and recycled fabrics. But above all, it’s the cheerful, escapist vibes that are sure to hook the fans in again. Cutesy graphics, vibrant colours and swirly psychedelic prints will make you feel like you’re somewhere else - somewhere, well, Sunny. As the slogan emblazoned on a grass green varsity jacket says: ‘Take a Trip’. Until we actually can again, this is the next best thing.
The collection is now available to pre-order with 10% off, with delivery scheduled for August.
