Kitschy sci-fi just got the high fashion seal approval, courtesy of Alessandro Michele’s new Fall Winter ad campaign for Gucci.
Shot by the legendary Glen Luchford, the coming season’s campaign sees Gucci’s geeks transported into a galaxy far, far away, inspired by sci-fi shows of the Fifties and Sixties and taking major cues from back episodes of Star Trek.
A cast of humans, aliens and robots can be seen sporting the F/W collection as they fend off dinosaurs (that are less Jurassic World and more retro B-movie), hop onto a spaceship (Gucci monogrammed luggage in tow) and re-materialise after being ‘beamed up’ via Star Trek’s teleportation room.
The Creature of the Black Lagoon is among the fantastical characters that Gucci has recruited to join its fashionably maximalist parallel universe, emerging from (yes) some deep and murky waters to save a Gucci girl wearing the label’s now-trademark clashing prints and bell sleeves.
Elsewhere, Gucci-clad models take the lead in the control room of an endearingly retro spacecraft, bringing an explosion of colour and print to a fictional world that can often feel a little cold and serious.
