At fashion month, the street-style scene is usually abuzz with outrageously fun outfits and hot-off-the-press accessories. This season, however, things look slightly different, although that doesn't mean there isn't a must-have. Introducing the fashion week face mask, this season's essential accessory. Suddenly, the It bag has been pushed to the bottom of the street-style pile, and now it's all about the face mask – for obvious reasons. And while they're quite clearly a practical item designed to enhance personal safety – as well as the safety of others – there's no surprise that, now they're a part of daily life, people have begun to choose masks and coverings that represent their personal style. Naturally, that could not be more apparent at fashion week.

In New York, the capital of laid-back cool that's always delivered with polish, black face masks seem to be dominating the street-style scene. Model Natalie Nootenboom, however, contrasted her white KN95 with an all-black outfit that comprised of a knit dress, ankle boots and a puffer coat. While we wait to see the face mask stylings in London, Milan and Paris, take a look through the gallery below, from the chicest pairings to the most creative.
