Compelling evidence has just emerged that Eddie Redmayne - English actor, Oscar-winner - might be a secret stan of Carrie Bradshaw. Yes, really. At last night's Golden Globes, he pledged his allegiance with a stand-out accessory that sent a message, loud and clear, that he's binge-watched SATC: a giant corsage pinned on his left lapel.
Carrie and the corsage: an enduring love affair that pretty much sums up her style over the seasons (let's call it bad taste gone good). The blue corsage that first cropped up in season three, episode two was so quintessentially Carrie, fixed to her faux-fur coat and worn with a clashing pink button-down, that it even made it into the first episode of the reboot And Just Like That, an honour that was only bestowed on the most recognisable accessories (the Manolos, the Fendi Baguettes, you get the picture). And whether it was worn close to her heart, or crowning her ballerina bun, it always defied the rule: you should always take one thing off before you leave the house.
Clearly, Eddie lives by the same mantra. His chocolate brown suit could have stood on its own as a simple statement that, no, not every man has to wear a black tuxedo on the red carpet. (In fact, the men arguably had a lot more fun this year - with Donald Glover, Seth Rogan and, Jeremy Pope, who wore a leather polo neck (!) - leading the way.) Eddie, however, went a step further, adorning his suit jacket with a corsage that definitely wasn't for wallflowers.
The corsage also cropped up on Emma D'Arcy, who outdid themselves with a trio of 'main character' accessories (peacock blue gloves, a diamond cocktail ring and a corsage), Sigourney Weaver and Jenny Slate. Diego Calva also did a devastatingly good rendition, pairing a cream corsage with a pine green tuxedo. Carrie called it - the corsage is hot property.
