There's a great history of memes at the Met Gala. Who remembers the omelette dress on Rihanna? Or the fire emoji hat on Sarah Jessica Parker? (Some ingenious folk put the two together so that the flame was underneath the frying pan.) With this year's theme of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, you might not the think the memes would have presented themselves so readily, not like the year of camp or the year of Catholicism.
But lo and behold, the A-listers brought it once again with both Doja Cat, Lil Nas X and Jared Leto paying tribute to Karl's iconic cat Choupette and Lizzo being Lizzo.
The memes flowed in thick and fast - on Twitter, as well as under the hashtag #MemeTheMet on Instagram - making fashion's biggest night a little bit lighter as per usual.
Of course Doja Cat was going to feature on this list. She wasn't at the Met Gala in 2022 and boy did she make up for it this year...
The moment that people spotted that Olivia Wilde and Margaret Zhang were wearing the same Chloe dress in different colours had everyone talking...

Maybe it was too difficult for Blake to match the carpet successfully this year?
Romance was in the air, surprising a lot of people...
And there were less black suits on show which we always appreciate. It is the Met Gala after all!

Michaela wore custom-made jewellery by Emefa Cole, who only had one month to complete the pieces before the Met Gala. Michaela's brief? She wanted to be 'dripped in gold'. The gold in question was sourced from West Africa - specifically the Ity Mine, Côte d'Ivoire - which was important to them both. 'This subject is very important to us both firstly because of our shared West African heritage,' Cole told Grazia. 'Anyone of West African heritage has an intrinsic link to gold, it is a huge part of community and culture, and so it was incredibly important to ensure the gold used in this collection left a positive legacy for both the environment and the community that would last well after the moment of the Met Gala.'
