Pearls Are Making A Comeback In More Ways Than One And Here’s Exactly How To Style Them

We spoke to celebrity stylist Nisha Grewal to find out all about this summer’s hottest accessory trend…

Marylin Monroe, Princess Diana and Rihanna, what do they all have in common? A love of pearls. Between them, they have inspired three generations of women to embrace the timeless luxury of pearl jewellery, and this summer is no different.

According to new research by Thorntons, 57% of British women now own a piece of pearl jewellery, with a third of 18-24-year old’s snapping up a pearl accessory in the last six months. With both the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex also sporting the trend, it’s no surprise the Kate and Meghan effect combined has inspired such an upswing in the decadent, timeless accessory.

‘Pearls are a huge trend for this Spring/Summer,’ says celebrity stylist Nisha Grewal, ‘The best thing about an accessories trend is that it’s a really accessible way to update existing pieces in your wardrobe. Adding pearls in 2019 can elevate even the most basic of outfit and add a touch of luxury.’

'We're seeing pearls mixed with hearts, shells and other jewels and textures,' says Nisha, 'Don't feel confined to wearing only pearls. Mix in with your existing jewellery or simply add alongside gold hoops for a very current feel.'

'If trying the trend for the first time, perhaps keep the rest of your outfit simple,' says Nisha, 'Pearls are an eye catching gem, so try opting for a statement pair of earrings or a bold necklace and let the pearls do the talking.'

'Take pearls on holiday with you,' says Nisha, 'You can create a beach to bar look by adding a pair of beautiful pearl beaded sandals or pearl encrusted headband to your look.'

'Try adding pearls to your occasion wear looks this season by adding a pearl hair slide or beaded bag, this gives an element of luxe whilst still having a contemporary edge,' says Nisha, 'As we're seeing pearls becoming more popular, looking through some of the latest red carpet looks is a great way to steal some inspiration for your own outfit.'

'Don't be nervous, there are no rules,' says Nisha, 'Go with what makes you feel great, have fun and experiment! If you're testing the trend for the first time, why not borrow accessories from friends or family – playing with jewels you might not normally wear is a great way to explore new looks.'

Keep it casual

'Don't think that pearls are just a "dressy" accessory,' says Nisha, 'Try pearl earrings or a pearl cuff with a laid back casual look for added impact, every day. I personally love pearls with a grey cashmere jumper or tee! Tonally it's also very beautiful.'

By entering this prize draw, entrants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions governing this promotion and by any other requirements set out in related promotional materials.

Prizes: There are three prizes available to be won, each consisting of a celebrity styling session with Nisha Grewal for the winner and a friend.

Prize Conditions:

a. The celebrity stylist session will take place in London on a set date. Winners will be notified 10 days in advance of such date and will need to make themselves available to attend. Winners will need to confirm they can attend within one week of being notified of the date. If they cannot attend, no alternative dates will be offered and they will forfeit the prize.

b. Winners will be required to complete a short questionnaire and send photos of themselves before the session.

c. Travel costs of up to £500 per winner (£250 for the winner and £250 for their friend) will be covered by the Promoter. Accommodation will not be offered.

d. The Promoter will also provide £200 spending money for the winner and £200 for their friend on the day of the stylist session.

e. The Prize does not include additional activities or services, or any other costs of a personal nature that are not explicitly set out in these terms and conditions or confirmed when the winner is notified and neither the Promoter nor any provider of any part of the prize will be responsible for any such costs.

The winners will be selected at random from all valid entries received after the end of the Promotion Period, under independent supervision. In the event for any reason the prize winners do not take an element of the prize at the time stipulated by the Promoter, then that element of the prize will be forfeited by the winners and neither cash nor any other form of compensation will be supplied in lieu of that element of the prize. If for any reason a prize is not available, the Promoter reserves the right to substitute another prize for it, in its sole discretion, of equal or higher value.

If for any reason any aspect of this promotion is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond the control of the Promoter which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the Promoter may in its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the promotion, or invalidate any affected entries.

The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the promotion or accepting the prize. These terms and conditions are governed by English Law and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.
