Those of us who have become obsessed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (or AOC as she calls herself) lately are not only enamoured with her no-nonsense approach to politics, razor sharp wit and tireless work to improve the lives of people in her district, but also by the way she uses fashion and beauty to make political statements.

‘I saw @AOC wearing gold hoops and red lipstick at her swearing in so I am now going to wear gold hoops and red lipstick everywhere I go,’ tweeted US news editor Ashley Alese Edwards, saying what we were all thinking.

AOC’s reply said it all; ‘Lip+hoops were inspired by Sonia Sotomayor,’ she tweeted, referring to a Bronx-born Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. ‘Who was advised to wear neutral-colored nail polish to her confirmation hearings to avoid scrutiny. She kept her red. Next time someone tells Bronx girls to take off their hoops, they can just say they’re dressing like a Congresswoman.’

Now, while answering questions on Instagram Stories, the politician has revealed the details of her skincare routine.

‘How do you stay stress free and how do you keep your skin so clear?!’ came the question, and AOC gave all the details.

Here are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's tips for looking after her skin:

Avoid wearing full coverage foundation, opt for tinted moisturisers and lighter bb creams instead

Remove makeup with wet wipes as soon as you get home, and keep them by the bed so you don’t forget!

Don’t use wipes with alcohol in them

Double cleanse

Use a nourishing toner after cleansing, AOC suggests witch hazel

After toning, use serums with active ingredients like Vitamin C or retinol

Avoid dairy if you notice it’s making your skin worse, ‘A few years ago I kept breaking out and I tried cutting out dairy and my skin issues went away,’ she said. ‘I'll still have dairy today but much less of it.’

But, she was quick to add; ‘It totally messes up your relationship with food which should be ENJOYABLE and FULFILLING relationship, not an anxious one.’
