Joe Jonas? Jake Gyllenhaal? Taylor's got us playing Poirot with her lyrics again... and even she's laughing about it...

Who Is Mr Perfectly Fine Taylor Swift about

Taylor Swift today released new/old song from the vault, Mr Perfectly Fine, leading fans to speculate which ex-boyfriend the song could be about.

Yes, you thought we were in the folky years of Taylor Swift being so in love with boyfriend Joe Alwyn that she has to make up stories to write songs about.

BUT, Mr Perfectly Fine is a 'From The Vaults' release. Ahead of her re-releasing her album, Fearless (Taylor's Version) following disputes with her former record company, Taylor has also been giving us some recently-recorded versions of songs she wrote back then which never saw the light of day.

In 2021, of course, we've tried to stop speculating about Taylor's love life in relation to her songs, but Taylor has today even stirred the pot in a tweet that suggests the song was originally made in 2008 - and that is isn't based in fiction like her recent releases.

Ok Taylor, if you're starting the game, then we're playing... and will be incessantly searching 'Who is Mr Perfectly Fine about?' until we KNOW.

As long-term Swifties, the return of 2008 burn your exes because actually they probably deserve it Taylor is welcome.

In the song, she really goes to town on the former love, singing lyrics like: 'Hello, Mr. perfectly fine. How’s your heart after breaking mine? Mr. always at the right place at the right time, baby. Hello, Mr. casually cruel. Mr. everything revolves around you. I’ve been Miss misery since your goodbye. And you’re Mr. perfectly fine...'

But...

Who is Mr Perfectly Fine About?

Ok, the 2008 Taylor mentions COULD refer to just the year of Fearless' release, but is it more of a clue to when the song was written?

Fans are speculating that the song was written in the era she made that album, so from 2006 to 2008. But if we take Taylor's 2008 mention (we are obsessed with GOBLIN VOICE) as a clue, this could point to Joe Jonas.

So, is Mr Perfectly Fine about Joe Jonas?

Well they dated around July to October in 2008 and she's supposedly written songs Forever & Always and Last Kiss about him.

She's also been open about being MAD... She did say on Ellen Degeneres' show that Joe Jonas broke up with her 'over the phone in 25 seconds when I was 18.' Then in 2019, when DeGeneres asked Swift what the most rebellious thing she did as a teen was, the 29-year-old singer responded, 'Probably when I put Joe Jonas on blast on your show. That was too much.'

Fans seem to think it could be about him...

Is Mr Perfectly Fine about Jake Gyllenhaal?

Some fans on hearing the song immediately speculated that the song was about Taylor's ex-boyfriend, Jake Gyllenhall.

That's because in the song, she uses the phrase 'casually cruel' which we ALL now know TOO WELL, geddit, is a phrase Taylor uses in All Too Well, a song widely acknowledged to be about her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal.

HOWEVER, lots of fans have also quickly pointed out that the couple didn't date until around October 2010.

So, they're claiming, it can't be about Jake if it's a Fearless era written song.

Who knows though, could Taylor be throwing us all off the scent and releasing a later vaulted song... or maybe she just likes the phrase CASUALLY CRUEL, because as anyone who's sang All Too Well knows, it sounds great when screamed in a rage.

It could also be about other former relationships, therefore, like Taylor Lautner, Harry Styles or John Mayer, who she's also written songs about.

But, as ever, we're guessing Taylor will remain tight-lipped about who Mr Perfectly Fine is about.

And speculating is half the fun anyway right? GOBLIN LAUGH.
