Last night’s Met Gala was the hottest invite of the season, with Diana Ross, Doechii and Jodie Turner-Smith all stealing the show on the most photographed red carpet – or in this case, blue carpet – of the year. With the theme of 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style' in honour of Black dandyism, anyone who wanted to see or be seen was there – one notably absence then? Taylor Swift.

The 35-year-old singer last attended the Met Gala in 2016 when she served as co-chair with the theme ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.’ She’d been showing out at the event since 2008, although was known to skip the occasional year, up until her now nine-year absence from fashion's biggest night out.

While fans were hoping that Swift would make her long-awaited return to the red carpet with new boyfriend Travis Kelce, a man who seemingly loves a major fashion moment himself, alas they were disappointed.

Why didn't Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attend the Met Gala?

According to reports, Swift and Kelce were both invited to the Met Gala but chose not to attend due to scheduling conflicts. The pair have also been notably less visible since Swift finished her now infamous Eras Tour, an intentional decision with Swift reportedly hoping to take at least a year off from public commitments after two intense years of touring.

Swift and Kelce were last spotted on a date at Del Frisco’s Grille in New York in March, but otherwise haven’t been seen out together this year. ‘They have been traveling nonstop and very much enjoy it,’ a source told People magazine. ‘They are making the most of their time off together. They are hanging out with friends, too. It's a special time for them. Right now, the focus is very much on private time out of the spotlight.’

They weren’t the only celebrities to snub the Met Gala either, with Sarah Jessica Parker also cancelling last minute, as well as honorary chair LeBron James.
