Here’s Why Rihanna Wasn’t Impressed By Drake’s Love Declaration For Her At The VMA’s

Rihanna and Drake are the world’s favourite almost-couple. Whether you want them to be together or not, the world is obsessed with whether these two were ever a real thing or not. From the outside looking in, it looks like a casual romance fizzled out, where one cough DRAKE cough was far more into it than the other.

This was illustrated perfectly at the VMA’S in 2016 when Drake professed his undying love for Riri while presenting her with the Michael Jackson Vanguard award. Not only did compliment her music, fashion, and personality, he also told the crowd ‘she’s someone I’ve been in love since I was 22-years old’.

While she seemed to take his three-minute stream of compliments/stealing of the limelight in her stride, it turns out she was actually extremely uncomfortable for the entire speech. Speaking to Vogue, she said:

‘The VMAs is such a fan-focused awards show, so having that energy around me, and knowing the people who had received the award in the past, made it feel like a big deal. Waiting through that speech was probably the most uncomfortable part. I don’t like too many compliments; I don’t like to be put on blast.’

According to the magazine, she winced upon hearing his name, and went on to confirm that the two aren’t actually friends anymore. She continued, ‘we don’t have a friendship now, but we’re not enemies either. It is what it is.’

While Aubrih (their relationship name combining Rihanna with Drakes given name Aubrey) fans have exclaimed their disappointment online, the majority of people aren’t surprised at the pairs failed friendship. In fact, many have called out Drake’s actions and highlighted how different it would be if their genders were reversed.

Considering there have been rumours that Rihanna’s has been dating Hassan Jameel, a hugely successful businessman from one of the wealthiest families in the world, for over a year, it’s not surprising that the pair have lost touch.

However, the revelation doesn’t serve the music industry well, since the all of the duos collaborations, including ‘What’s My Name?’, ‘Too Good’ and ‘Work’, smash the charts upon every release.

So, could they reunite? Has Drake already left her 80 voicemails wondering where they are right now? Has Riri sent the ‘deleted this number sorry who is this?’ get the hint text? WE HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Alas, we’ll have to wait for Drake’s next album for any more information, Lord knows he’ll lay it all out on the table from his perspective. Until then, we’ll be applying our Fenty Body Lava and replying ‘it is what it is’ to all of our Drake-style ‘friends’...
