The Pussycat Doll’s Reunion Did Not Go Down Well With The X Factor Viewers

‘They could’ve at least pretended to sing with the backing track,’ one user tweeted.

On Saturday night’s episode of The X Factor: Celebrity, the Pussycat Dolls reunited for the first time in a decade, performing a medley of their greatest hits and their new song, React. Unfortunately, the performance didn’t seem to go down too well with viewers, for a medley of reasons.

Sharing a clip from the performance on Twitter, over 200 The X Factor viewers responded to the tweet – many of whom did not have great reviews. The main problems? The fact Nicole Scherzinger was once again the only person singing, with the cameras pretty much focused on her the whole time. Plus, the fact that even with her spectacular voice, she appeared to be miming much of the song.

‘God forbid the camera focus on any of the other 4 I guess. If Nicole wanna be a solo artist... be one,’ one user replied, with over 144 likes.

‘Miming is not exactly performing. If the others have to sing live, so should they,’ another added.

‘This performance was problematic & mediocre at best. The dancing not in sync, the miming, the lack of stamina, wardrobe, etc. But I guess understandable for their 1st time back,’ a third comment concluded.

‘Call me a prude, but I don’t think the outfits are “cool” at all. Sorry!’ one person tweeted. ‘Put some clothes on ladies,’ another said. Many said the X Factor is a ‘family show’, with some saying they had to turn off because of the outfits. Of course, there were a few social media users pointing out how problematic those opinions are, with one saying ‘They slayed it and looked amazing after 10yrs for 40yr olds! And in high heels!!’.

‘I watched this “racy” performance from Britney when I was 12 and to everyone’s surprise, I didn’t get pregnant at 14 or become addicted to drugs at 16 or venture into a life of sex work at 18. It’s a musical performance, not an orgy. Chill,’ another said, sharing an image of Britney Spears in a mesh bikini and trousers.

While those tweets may not have got as many agreeable likes from other viewers, at least some people are holding these sexist trolls to account. And when it comes to the performance as a whole, we can't help but think this is exactly was PCD fans would expect from the group. Because, not only have they always been a dance-focused group (which was excellent during this performance FYI), but apart from Melody Thornton- who isn't joining the reunion - the others never seem to take issue with Scherzinger leading the vocals. Ultimately, this is exactly the PCD we knew and loved as teens.
