What do you imagine when you picture Prince William donning his nightly robes and climbing into his King-size (Duke-size?) bed? Him, standing in front of a mirror surrounded by five maidens, pulling a Victorian nightshirt over his head? Kate sitting in bed next to him rolling her eyes? Never thought about it before in your life? Fair enough – but that’s about to change.
Because, after much anticipation, what Prince William wears to bed has finally been revealed…kind of. At least, what’s sitting in his pyjamas drawer has. And seriously, it’s iconic. According to Killing Eve producer Sally Woodward Gentle, Prince William has his very own set of Villanelle's famous pop art pyjamas.
The absolute gem of information was announced on Monday after Prince William opened the BAFTA: Behind The Scenes exhibition. At the public exhibition celebrating the best UK films and TV shows, Sally Woodward Gentle spoke to reporters about gifting William with the pyjama set.
‘We gave him a pair of Villanelle’s pyjamas,’ she said. ‘They are the ones with the cartoon all over them. She wears them in episodes one and two — they are a little boy’s pyjamas, which she nicks, and she wears. They have got “Kapow!” And cartoony stuff all over them.’
While his pair are ‘quite small’ – and meant to be that way – Sally insisted they ‘are adult-sized'.
'We had them made up especially for the show. We had a few made up, and that’s the last pair left.’
The pyjamas were custom made forJodie Comeroriginally. While you can buy the fabric yourself for £26 per metre, Sally decided to give the last pair made by the show to William after he revealed how much he enjoys it to season one costume designer Phoebe de Gaye.
‘He said he loved it,’ Sally said. ‘He talked about the dark humour of it, and Jodie and Sandra [Oh], how amazing they both are. And he talked about the humour you can get through the costumes, which is what Phoebe [de Gaye] is so clever at.’
As such, it seems fair to assume Prince William is donning his Villanelle pyjamas every night. Because why not?
