Ovie Soko launched his ASOS collection last night and honestly, of all the fashion collections to come out of Love Island 2019, this one is easily the most highly anticipated. Of course, the launch of a new brand means a lot of new interviews with the islander favourite – and a lot of questions about his BFF Amber Gill.
Naturally, everyone is still eagerly waiting for Amber to speak out about her break-up with Greg O’Shea – who reportedly dumped her over text, something that was later confirmed by Mandi Vakili on Instagram. And while Amber has kept it quiet and classy amid the break-up, she has been lucky enough to have best friends like Ovie confirm that she’s doing just fine.
When asked about how he supported Amber following the break-up, he told The Sun he was one of the first to check in on her. ‘We all drop a line or text to check in how we're doing and if everything is okay,’ he said. ‘We spoke after the whole Greg situation, I just checked in on her - that kind of stuff.
‘She is doing really good,’ he continued, ’she has obviously got a lot of stuff going on but I wouldn't be surprised if she makes an appearance at my launch party.’
Of course, despite being in a relationship with fellow islander India Reynolds, despite multiple denials of any romance and despite Amber saying she sees him as a ‘brother’, he was also asked about a potential relationship between the two of them. He reiterated that they are just friends.
‘Amber is a sweetheart, she is a close friend of mine and I will always have her back,’ he said, ‘We will be friends for life, of course.’
This comes after cheating rumours about India – that were quickly quashed – prompted a wave of vile trolling towards her, and an abundance of memes about the potential single status of both Ovie and Amber.
While Ovie initially kept quiet about the rumours, he has since spoken out against the hatred towards India, asking everyone to put positivity above all else. ‘Me and India are happy. I think that's definitely the most important thing. We're very happy,’ he confirmed in an interview with the MailOnline, ‘Regardless of how many people [there are] in every one of our lives, there will be opinions. And everyone can have their own opinion.’
‘I think as a collective society, every last one of us can always do a better job of wording things in a nice way,’ he said, referencing the the trolling experienced by India. ‘Because I think, regardless of the situation, I don't think ... anyone really has to be demonised.’
