When you've been President of the United States for the past eight years, you’ll have undoubtedly found it difficult to spare a few days for a quick vacay in the sun. You know, with the growing threat of global climate change and the responsibility of being the leader of the free world. No biggie.

But now the reigns have been handed over to Donald Trump, Barack Obama and the former First Family can finally relax. And it’s safe to say they wasted no time in jetting away from it all, as they were spotted boarding a private jet just hours after the inauguration. We can’t help but wish that we could have done the same.

But where does Obama, who has travelled the world in order to perform his presidential duties and promote world peace, decide to go on his first trip? Well, it turns out the decision was surprisingly easy for the Obamas.

The family has been visiting a Palm Springs mansion located in the highly desirable Thunderbirds Heights community for the past couple of years. So there was no question that they would decide to embark on a weeklong holiday at the prestigious pad.

The 11,000 square-foot mansion was built in the early 1970s by architect Howard Lapham and features impressive architectural additions such as a hand-carved Mayan calendar in the foyer and a façade decorated with Mesoamerican motifs. Only the best for the former president.

But the holiday didn’t end there for the Obama clan as they were then spotted leaving Palm Springs on Monday night for Sir Richard Branson’s private Caribbean island of Necker. The 74-acre stretch of white sands and infinity pools allows only 30 guests at a time and enables residents to enjoy kite surfing, spa treatments and scuba diving.

And the Obamas needn’t worry about bumping into Donald Trump anytime soon as Branson was vocal regarding his views on the new President of the United States during the election.

The billionaire wrote in a post on the Virgin website: 'What concerns me most, based upon my personal experiences with Donald Trump, is his vindictive streak, which could be so dangerous if he got into the White House. For somebody who is running to be the leader of the free world to be so wrapped up in himself, rather than concerned with global issues, is very worrying.'
