Why Does Everyone Blame Meghan And Forget About Harry?

In yesterday's explosive witness statement from the couple's former communication's secretary, the court learnt that Harry had involvement in Finding Freedom - but it's only Meghan who is being called a liar.

Over the past day, emails and texts between Prince Harryhave emerged. The messages have been made public as the Mail on Sunday appeal to Meghan's privacy case, relating to when they published a handwritten letter to her father. In the appeal, it has been revealed that Meghan told Knauf that she suspected the letter might be leaked (that doesn't mean it should have been, btw) and thatMeghan did have a slight involvement in Finding Freedom - the biography which the couple had previously claimed to have no involvement in. It means some have been quick to brand her a 'liar'.

But, crucially, it was revealed that Harry had involvement in it, too. Emailing Knauf, Harry agreed to keep silent on not having anything to do with it - even though Knauf was giving pointers to authors, royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand{ =nofollow}, from Harry. 'I totally agree that we have to be able to say we didn’t have anything to do with it,' Harry said. 'Equally, you giving the right context and background to them would help get some truths out there.'

In another text, he elaborated on what he wanted Scobie and Durand to cover. 'Also, are u planning on giving them a rough idea of what she’s been through over the last 2yrs? Media onslaught, cyber bullying on a different scale, puppeteering Thomas Markle etc etc etc,' he said. 'Even if they choose not to use it, they should hear what it was like from someone who was in the thick of it. So, if you aren’t planning on telling them, can I ?!'

Meghan has always been seen - by many media outlets - as someone conniving, and out to damage the royal family. There has even been quite a strange narrative over the years that suggests that Harry has somehow been duped or 'bewitched' by his wife, who is the one masterminding their every move. As a result, most of the media coverage, and people's ire, focuses on Meghan. (Harry even addressed this speaking on a panel yesterday - called the Internet Lie Machine, organised by US magazine Wired - when he said Megxit was a misogynistic term.) But the truth is, whether you're pro/anti Harry and Meghan{ =nofollow}, Harry has also been involved in the media's narrative of him and his wife and the latest evidence shows that he has taken an active role in getting their message out, and had strong views on what information he wanted to see in the book. Meghan is painted as a brash American who was keen to talk to the press and sell their story at the first chance, but this latest evidence demonstrates this is something they were actively involved in as a couple.

You can disagree with what they did, you can disagree with how they approached the row in the Mail on Sunday, but laying the blame squarely at Meghan's door is totally unfair.
